Arizona Taxi Driver Miracle

Last year a special education methods instructor from Gilbert, Arizona named Rita Van Loenen was diagnosed with kidney disease. She checked with her family and friends for a donor, but none of them were a match. She tried taking a kidney from her cousin but the match wasn’t close enough and the transplant failed. Then the most unusual thing happened, some are calling it a miracle.
Van Loenen had the same taxi driver take her to her dialysis appointments several times, and to her great surprise, he offered to donate his kidney. Now, that alone would be a great gesture of good will, but the likelihood of him actually being a perfect match is much like the odds of getting struck by lightning, maybe even less likely. To Van Loenen’s amazement, Thomas Chappel, her taxi driver, ended up being that one in a million perfect match. The match was close enough that they could have been siblings.
Chappel has said that he is a man of faith and something told him to offer to help because it would work. He has never asked for any compensation for his help, though his employer, VIP taxies, has promised to compensate him for lost wages when he has the operation.
